Stefan Klos: More Staying Power Than An Energizer Bunny
You have to admire a goalkeeper who has staying power, it's a trait too many young goalkeepers don't have inherent within them these days. Many goalkeepers whom contact me want a shot at the big leagues too soon, they don't realize that it takes many years of dedicated work to get the number one jersey, if you're lucky enough. Many goalkeepers aren't.
Stefan Klos had a knack for peering over the sidelines during international competition for Germany and he only ever played for Dortmund and Rangers in Scotland. Overall, he was an extremely efficient goalkeeper whom had a brilliant presence in goals. Winning a UEFA Champions League title with Dortmund in 1997, but was never capped with Germany.
In 1997, he was given the opportunity to captain Rangers, and throughout his career suffered injuries that at times kept him on the sidelines throughout 2005 through to 2007...but he still fought on. At the time of his retirement with Rangers he was the "longest" serving player after 8 years with the club. Longevity, it's a nice but underrated word for many goalkeepers.
You see, longevity will decide whether you stay on as a champion goalkeeper, or move on too quickly never having won anything. I'd much rather everyone reading this blog to have some staying power. Following is a video of Stefan Klos playing at his peak, and it provides an excellent insight into the gutsy German goalkeeping style.
